When both Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle injured hamstrings on Sunday night, Beckham’s appeared to be the less serious of the two. He was able to come back and appear for a couple of plays late in that game, while Randle never was a possibility to come back. But a week later, Randle now looks more likely to play in the Monday night game at Philadelphia.
Beckham didn’t practice all week and is questionable on the injury report. Maybe he’s active, but there’s a good chance he won’t even play. Randle, on the other hand, is probable. He did some work at practice all week.
Those who used first- or second-round picks on Beckham, of course, want to get some return on their investment. If he’s active, they definitely want to use him. And for those guys, there is some potential to put together a plan to get him on the field.
Dwayne Harris, for one, has looked pretty serviceable the last two weeks, catching (I think) 11 passes. He’s probably available in most leagues. So one strategy would be to add Harris to your roster. If Beckham isn’t active on Monday, you plug in Harris and you have a body that might be almost as good as what you might replace Beckham with on Saturday.
The Eagles also have a notable receiver injury. Nelson Agholor is out with an ankle injury. This should translate into a few more opportunities for guys like Riley Cooper, Miles Austin and Josh Huff. Those guys don’t look at promising as Harris (sans Beckham) but they’ll work against a Giants defense that ranks last against the pass. And New York will be without it’s top cornerback, Prince Amukamara.
I didn’t not mention Jordan Matthews in that group, but he’s in a class way, way above those guys. With the Amukamara injury and the Giants not having much of a pass rush, Matthews looks like he’ll probably be a top-10 wide receiver this week. Maybe top 5.
Eagles also list Ryan Mathews (groin) as questionable, but he practiced fully today, so I expect he’ll play.
