Newton should strengthen MVP push

I'm up to the 12th overall. Probably running out of weeks to make up enough ground to actually win this thing, but it'd be nice to finish in the top 10. I'm looking at a couple of old stand-bys this week.

Details were laid out here , so if you missed that column, check it out, and then come on back here.

The contest is totally free, and it's simple. Each week you pick the best 2 QBs, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 2 TEs and 2 PKs (scoring system: 1 point for 10 run/rec or 20 passing yards, 6 points for run/rec TDs, 4 points for passing TDs, straight NFL points for kickers). You will be playing alongside Fantasy Index writers and subscribers, and there will be weekly prizes for the reader whose team posts the best score. Here's my Week 14 lineup.

Quarterbacks: Cam Newton and Tom Brady. A pair of MVP candidates, and right now I think Newton deserves to win it. He faces Atlanta, so he should be very good. Brady faces Houston, which is not ideal, but I'm not betting against him. Though Carson Palmer versus a banged-up Vikings defense is possible.

Running Backs: Doug Martin and LeSean McCoy. Martin faces the horrible Saints. They're actually just as bad against the run as the pass. McCoy faces his former team, and why would the Eagles be amped up to stop him -- it's not his fault Chip Kelly traded him.

Wide Receivers: Mike Evans, Odell Beckham Jr., A.J. Green. Theoretically I could use both Tampa receivers, but I don't want to overdo it. Green has a very strong history against the Steelers, Beckham should light up the Dolphins. To be honest, I may just need to leave one of these guys out for Antonio Brown. We'll see.

Tight ends: Greg Olsen and Austin Seferian-Jenkins. Might be too bold going with ASJ. Olsen against the Falcons is a definite. If I go away from Seferian-Jenkins, Travis Kelce will be the choice.

Kickers: Graham Gano and Chandler Catanzaro. Home teams that should score plenty and win big.

If this game required defenses, the Seahawks against Matt Schaub and Panthers against a struggling Matt Ryan are easy choices as top picks.

Good luck to the rest of you.
