Question
If the Patriots lose on Sunday, the Super Bowl would feature two opponents with No. 1 overall picks on their rosters -- Peyton Manning and either Cam Newton or Carson Palmer. When was the last time this happened in a Super Bowl? For the game in question, one of the No. 1 picks was a quarterback; the other was not.
Answer
When the Rams and Patriots played after the 2001 season, St. Louis had Orlando Pace, while the Patriots had Drew Bledsoe. Bledsoe didn't actually get on the field in that game. When the Cowboys and Bills met twice in the early '90s, there were three No. 1 overall picks -- Troy Aikman, Russell Maryland and Bruce Smith. And following the 1987 season, Washington had George Rogers playing against Denver's John Elway.
