Question
In Bill O’Brien’s first season, the Texans went 9-7 but traded away their starting quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick. Last year they again went 9-7 but have now dumped Brian Hoyer. When was the last time a team did this? That is, finished with a winning record two years in a row, but after each of those seasons chose to get rid of its starting quarterback?
Answer
The Ravens, in 2000 and 2001. Tony Banks and Trent Dilfer were the quarterbacks during their Super Bowl season, but neither was brought back for 2001. Elvis Grbac was a disappointment in 2001, and they released him after that season.
