San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco defense running on empty

The 49ers have a pretty awful run defense right now. Worse than you might even realize – all-time bad.

San Francisco has allowed a 100-yard rusher in seven straight games. (Amazing that this is the same team that shut down Todd Gurley back in Week 1 – the one running back who hasn’t had a huge day against this group.) And they’re just getting gouged every week.

At the halfway point of the season, the 49ers are on pace to allow over 3,000 rushing yards. In the unlikely event they can maintain this pace, they’ll allow over 300 more rushing yards than any other defense in this century.

They’re allowing 193 rushing yards per game this year. Only 23 other defenses since 2000 have allowed 150 yards in a season.

They’ve got David Johnson this week. He looks like a heavy favorite to be the most productive running back in Week 10.
