Is Adam Gase the man to get the Jets headed in the right direction? I’m skeptical.
When Gase was the offensive coordinator in Chicago in 2015, that team ranked in the bottom-10 in scoring.
Each of his three offenses in Miami the last three years have ranked in the bottom 10 (in total yards gained). I will concede that he somehow managed to go 23-25 in his three years there, but there hasn’t been much offensive production. (Gase went 5-1 against the Jets the last three years, and 18-24 against other teams.)
During Gase’s three years in Miami, only five teams scored fewer points. That includes these Jets.

Gase’s offenses have tended to run fewer plays than other teams. Over the past three years, his teams have averaged only 58 offensive plays per game. All of the league’s other 31 teams have averaged at least 3 more plays per game. I can’t fully or properly explain that, but I would think it’s tied to those teams tending to frequently make light use of the running game, as well as not being good against the run themselves. Perhaps also Gase doesn’t tend to use tempo as much in his offense – when teams use the no-huddle, that works more plays into their games.

It can be argued that Gase never had elite talent in Miami. Most of those games were quarterbacked by Ryan Tannehill, Jay Cutler and Matt Moore. But I don’t see the Jets as a team that’s overflowing with talent. I will be very surprised if Gase is able to lift that offense out of the bottom 10 in 2019.
