J.D. McKissic

Antonio Gibson injury has McKissic looking good

I have interest in J.D. McKissic this week. He’s a good pass-catching back, and I think he’s going to play a big role at Green Bay.

Antonio Gibson starts for Washington, but he’s iffy with shin and calf injuries that have been bothering him for weeks. They pulled him early on Sunday. It’s seeming like it’s time to shut him down and let his body get right. If they were to also hold him out in Week 8, they would be able to bring him back fresh after their Week 9 bye.

If Gibson sits, they’ll likely use Jaret Patterson some, but the game at Green Bay seems like a better fit for McKissic. He’s got a lot more experience, and a lot more ability to operate as both a runner and a pass catcher. They’ll probably be trailing by a bunch early, so I could see McKissic playing in a lot of one-back sets, running draws and catching dumpoff passes.

McKissic had one of those games on Sunday against Kansas City, carrying 8 times for 45 yards and catching 8 passes for 65 yards.

McKissic is good at what he does. When they use him, those are the kind of games he tends to deliver. There were 10 games last year in which McKissic was on the field for over half of the team’s offensive plays. In those games, he averaged 27 rushing yards, 6.4 catches and 48 receiving yards. Only 3 TDs, but those catches grade out favorably in PPR formats.
