Pittsburgh QB Kenny Pickett undergoes surgery; Out for 2-4 weeks

Veteran Mitch Trubisky to start

Steelers QB Pickett underwent surgery for a high ankle sprain Monday morning following a loss to the 3-10 Arizona Cardinals in a surprise upset on Sunday.

Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterback Kenny Pickett is expected to be sidelined for the next 2-4 weeks following a surgical procedure for a high ankle sprain.

Head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters Monday morning that the surgery was "an effort to accelerate the healing process." Tomlin also confirmed that Pickett would not be starting the Thursday night game.

Pickett sustained the injury during a late first-half running play. Pickett was evaluated by medical staff and was able to walk off unassisted, however he did not return. It was reported that he was dealing with ankle discomfort after last Sunday's win against the Bengals where he went 24 of 33 for 278 yards, his strongest showing of the season.

Pittsburgh sits in the 2nd slot in the AFC North at 7-5. A critical Thursday night win against the hapless New England Patriots will keep them in the AFC playoff race.
