Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert to miss rest of 2023 season

Backup QB Easton Stick to start on Thursday against the Raiders

Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert to miss rest of 2023 season following surgery on broken index finger.

The Chargers have confirmed a significant blow to their roster, QB Justin Herbert is set to undergo surgery for a broken index finger on his throwing hand, effectively ending his season.

The injury, which occurred in the Chargers' recent matchup against the Denver Broncos, has been a critical turning point in an already challenging season for the team. With their star quarterback now on injured reserve, the Chargers face the daunting task of navigating the remainder of the season without one of their key players.

Herbert's injury came in the second quarter, following an incomplete pass. He was tackled by the Broncos' Zach Allen and hit the ground fracturing his finger.

Initially listed as questionable, Herbert's return became increasingly doubtful, and by the start of the second half, he was officially ruled out of the game.

With the Chargers trailing 7-0, backup quarterback Easton Stick stepped in. Despite his efforts, the team couldn't turn the tide, ultimately falling to their division rivals.

Herbert was 9 for 17 attempts for 96 yards and one interception. Stick, in his 5th year, managed 179 yards, completing 13 of his 24 pass attempts.

Easton Stick is expected to start against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday primetime.
