Jared Goff joins rare company after Divisional Round win

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell gave quarterback Jared Goff a game ball after their Wild Card Round victory against his former team, the Los Angeles Rams. Campbell said he was good enough for the franchise that got him in return for trading away Matthew Stafford.

However, that was only the beginning as Goff led the Lions to another playoff victory, this time against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Divisional Round. The former first-overall draft pick finished that game with 30 completions for 287 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

As CBS Sports noted, Goff is one win away from winning the National Football Conference and a spot in Super Bowl LVIII. However, the win against Tampa Bay puts him in an exclusive club.

Goff became the third quarterback in NFL history to win at least 14 games in a season for multiple teams. The first two signal-callers to achieve the feat were Hall of Famer Peyton Manning and seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady.

Defeating the Buccaneers gave Goff his 14th win this season after ending the regular season at 12-5. Five years earlier, he led the Rams to a 13-3 regular season mark and earned two playoff victories before reaching Super Bowl LIII. Unfortunately, they lost that game after scoring only three points against Brady and the New England Patriots.

Meanwhile, Brady earned 15 total victories in his first season (2020) with the Buccaneers, including their Super Bowl LV victory at home. A year later, he finished with 14 wins after getting 13 regular-season wins and a Wild Card Round win against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Conversely, Brady had 11 seasons with 14 wins or more with the Patriots, including their perfect 16-0 regular season in 2007. His last 14-win season in New England was in 2018, when they defeated the Rams for the franchise’s sixth Super Bowl victory.

Finally, Manning had two instances of 14 or more wins with the Denver Broncos. He had 15 wins in 2013 after defeating the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. Two years later, Manning earned his 15th victory in Super Bowl 50 against the Carolina Panthers.

Peyton Manning had three seasons of at least 14 victories with the Indianapolis Colts. He earned 14 victories in 2003 after leading the Colts past the Chiefs in the Divisional Round. Three years later, he had 16 wins after defeating the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI. He had 16 wins in 2009 but lost Super Bowl XLIV to the New Orleans Saints.
