Lamar Jackson wins 2nd MVP award

Lamar Jackson won his second Most Valuable Player award at the 13th NFL Honors at the Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas, Nevada. He received 49 of the 50 first-place votes, with the remaining vote going to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

Getting all 50 votes would have made him the first player to win multiple MVP awards unanimously. Still, he is the second unanimous MVP after Tom Brady did it in 2010. The former Louisville standout finished the 2023 regular season with 307 completions for 3,678 yards and 24 touchdowns.

He completed 67.2 percent of his throws and committed only seven interceptions. This season, Jackson added 821 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

This moment wouldn’t have happened for the Ravens if an NFL team traded for him during the 2023 offseason. Jackson made his trade request public after Baltimore gave him a non-exclusive franchise tag. Eventually, both parties agreed to a five-year, $260 million contract extension, even if Jackson negotiated without an agent.

In other news, Christian McCaffrey won Offensive Player of the Year after going over 2,000 yards from scrimmage, including a league-leading 1,459 yards. Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett won Defensive Player of the Year after tallying 42 tackles and 14 sacks.

The Houston Texans swept the Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year awards with C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson Jr. The former Ohio State standout finished the season with 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Meanwhile, the edge rusher from Alabama had 29 solo tackles and seven sacks.

Aside from Garrett, three other Browns players and coaches won individual awards. Joe Flacco won Comeback Player of the Year honors, while Kevin Stefanski was named Coach of the Year. Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz earned the Assistant Coach of the Year award.
