Dak Prescott Admitted That 'Real' Contract Negotiations Haven't Started

All quarterback Dak Prescott wants is to strike a fair deal with the Dallas Cowboys. It doesn’t mean he has to be the highest-paid quarterback in the league.

With the 2024 NFL Draft just days away, the Cowboys and Prescott haven’t finalized a contract extension. Therefore, there’s a danger he might be playing the final year of a four-year, $160 million contract extension and walk away a free agent after the 2024 season.

As The Athletic’s Cowboys beat writer Jon Machota wrote, Prescott said during a recent event for Children’s Cancer Fund in Dallas that serious contract talks between him and Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones. Prescott said:

“I’m focused on here and right now, where I am. That’s always how I’ve been. I’ve been in this situation before, so it’s OK. I’m fine in any situation, betting on myself or playing this year out.”

Dak Prescott has been with the Cowboys since 2016, the year he was drafted. In addition to winning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, he is a three-year Pro Bowler and a 2023 Second Team All-Pro member.

He finished the 2023 season with 410 completions for 4,516 yards and 36 touchdowns. But despite earning the second seed during the NFC playoffs, they were eliminated by the Green Bay Packers during the Wild Card Round.
