Texans Trade for WR Ben Skowronek

The Houston Texans traded for wide receiver Ben Skowronek, who played his first three NFL seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. Aside from getting the former Northwestern and Notre Dame standout, the Texans and the Rams will exchange sixth and seventh-round picks in the 2026 NFL draft.

The transaction came at the right time because the Rams were reportedly cutting Skowronek from the roster. Los Angeles’ NFC team has a surplus of wideouts, including Puka Nacua, Cooper Kupp, Demarcus Robinson, and Tutu Atwell. They also selected Jordan Whittington in the 2024 draft and signed undrafted free-agent wide receivers J.J. Laap, Drake Stoops, and Sam Wiglusz.

The Rams selected Skowronek in the seventh round of the 2021 draft. While he won a Super Bowl in his rookie season, he was barely a factor, finishing with 11 catches for 133 yards in 14 games. He completed his first touchdown catch of his NFL career last season.

However, Skowronek is not guaranteed a spot on the Texans’ final roster. The team has a formidable lineup, including Nico Collins, the returning Tank Dell, and the newly acquired All-Pro wideout Stefon Diggs. They also have Robert Woods, Noah Brown, and John Metchie III on their roster.

While these wide receivers have impressive stats, Skowronek's special teams experience could be his ticket to securing a place on the team. If he makes the cut, he will play the final year of his rookie scale contract with the Texans.
