Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars Working on Contract Extension

ESPN senior NFL writer Jeremy Fowler reported that quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars are working on a contract extension that will pay him an annual average of around $50 million.

The AFC South franchise and the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft would like the deal done before the 2024 season starts. Lawrence is in the final year of his four-year, $36.7 million rookie scale contract, and the Jaguars exercised his $25.6 million option for 2025.

Last season, Lawrence completed his second consecutive 4,000-yard season and threw 21 touchdowns. Unfortunately, the Jaguars missed the playoffs.

The year before, the former Clemson standout earned a Pro Bowl selection after tallying 4,113 yards and 25 touchdowns. They won a come-from-behind Wild Card Round showdown against the Los Angeles Chargers before losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round.

In three seasons with the Jaguars, Trevor Lawrence has a 63.8 completion percentage, 11,770 yards, and 58 touchdowns. He also has 11 rushing touchdowns from 964 yards from the ground.

Getting the contract done will make Lawrence the sixth quarterback, earning an average of at least $50 million annually. Joe Burrow tops the list at $55 million, while Jared Goff's recent extension is worth $53 million yearly. Justin Herbert ($52.5 million), Lamar Jackson ($52 million), and Jalen Hurts ($51 million) complete the top five.
