Dolphins Sign S Marcus Maye

Bleacher Report NFL insider Jordan Schultz first reported that safety Marcus Maye will join the Miami Dolphins on a one-year contract. It will be the third National Football League team he will suit up for after playing four seasons with the University of Florida Gators.

Before joining the Dolphins, Maye played under a three-year, $28.5 million contract for the New Orleans Saints. However, he was limited to ten games in 2022 and seven in 2023. He missed three games last year due to violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Maye had 97 tackles, four passes defended, two interceptions, and a sack in two seasons with the Saints.

Maye started his career with the New York Jets, who selected him in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, 33 spots after Jamal Adams. He had his best year with the Jets in 2020, the final year of his rookie scale contract. Maye established career highs in tackles (88), pass deflections (11), interceptions (2), forced fumbles (2), and sacks (2) that year.

After playing out his rookie contract, the Jets offered him the franchise tag, which he signed. Unfortunately, a torn Achilles limited him to six games that season. The Jets placed Maye on season-ending injury reserve in December.

Maye will compete with projected starters Jevon Holland and Jordan Poyer for playing time. The Dolphins also have Patrick McMorris, Mark Perry, Elijah Campbell, and Jordan Colbert in their safety depth chart.
