ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed that the Pittsburgh Steelers waived wide receiver Denzel Mims. It’s another setback to the career of the 2019 First Team All-Big 12 member.
The New York Jets selected Mims in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft after tallying 66 receptions for 1,020 yards and 12 touchdowns in his final year with the Baylor Bears. He showed promise during his rookie NFL season, tallying 23 receptions and 357 receiving yards in nine games.
Steelers waived WR Denzel Mims, who spent last season on Pittsburgh's practice squad.

Unfortunately, things went downhill for Mims as he finished with eight catches for 133 yards in his sophomore year. His third year with the Jets wasn't any better (11 catches, 186 yards), and rookie wide receiver Garrett Wilson overtook him as the primary option in the passing game.
Before the 2022 season, Mims requested a trade from the Jets, saying that the team did not give him enough opportunities to thrive. However, the team's response came a year later when the Jets traded Mims to the Detroit Lions for a conditional sixth-round draft pick.
His stint with the Lions didn't last long, as they waived him before the 2023 season started. The Pittsburgh Steelers threw him a lifeline, but he went as far as the practice squad. He hasn't played since 2022, putting his career totals at 42 receptions for 676 yards.
With the Steelers waiving him, Mims can sign with any NFL team and compete for a roster spot in training camp starting next month.
