Mekhi Blackmon Suffers Season-Ending ACL injury

After a solid rookie campaign, the Minnesota Vikings expect more from Mekhi Blackmon as he enters his second NFL season. Unfortunately, he might have to skip the upcoming year after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear on the first day of the Vikings’ training camp for veterans.

Blackmon suffered the injury during the team's Wednesday practice's 7-on-7 portion. He limped off the field and struggled to reach the locker room after hurting his knee.

It's an unfortunate development for a young defensive back who showed promise last season. After the Vikings selected Blackmon in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, he rewarded them with 41 tackles, eight pass deflections, an interception, and a fumble recovery in 15 games.

Blackmon's injury further depletes Minnesota's cornerback rotation after Khyree Jackson's untimely death. Luckily for the Vikings, they still have potential starters Shaquil Griffin and Byron Murphy Jr. Meanwhile, veteran defensive back Duke Shelley might see his minutes increase once he makes the 53-man active roster.

With Blackmon unable to play, the Vikings might sign another free-agent cornerback to bolster their depth. Xavien Howard, J.C. Jackson, Stephon Gilmore, and Adoree' Jackson are some of the marquee names available.
