Steelers Sign DE Cameron Heyward To Three-Year Contract Extension

The Pittsburgh Steelers and defensive end Cameron Heyward have agreed to terms on a three-year, $45 million contract extension. That deal could prompt Heyward to start and end his career in Steel City.

After playing four seasons at Ohio State, the Steelers selected Heyward in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Since then, the Pittsburgh-born defensive lineman has had four All-Pro selections (three first-team) and six Pro Bowl nods.

In addition to Heyward’s disruptive style of play, his veteran leadership inspires younger Steelers defensive athletes like T.J. Watt and Joey Porter Jr. While the team looks to him for guidance, he’s also an inspiration off the field, as proven by his 2023 NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

Heyward’s best season came in 2017 when he had a career-high 12 sacks with 45 total tackles and two forced fumbles. The former Buckeye had consecutive double-digit sack seasons in 2021 (10) and 2022 (10.5).

Before his recent contract extension, Heyward signed a four-year, $65.6 million contract in 2020. Without the recent extension, the 2024 season could have been his final year in Pittsburgh. Instead, he gets to complete his career with the black and yellow. His presence could also help the Steelers clinch their first playoff victory since 2016.
