Bengals Invite Leonard Fournette, Xavien Howard

The Cincinnati Bengals fell to 4-6 after their bitter defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. While they still have seven games left to secure a playoff spot, they must make their move now. Hence, they are looking to fortify their roster by adding proven veterans on both sides of the ball.

On offense, the Bengals invited running back Leonard Fournette to a workout. Fournette helped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers win Super Bowl LV by accumulating 448 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns in four postseason games. Fournette last played for the Buffalo Bills, finishing with 40 yards in two games last season.

Fournette’s best season occurred in 2019, when he had 1,152 rushing yards and three touchdowns for the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, the Jaguars waived him before the 2020 season after failing to find a team willing to trade for him.

Meanwhile, NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo reported that cornerback Xavien Howard will visit the Bengals. The 31-year-old defensive back is a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro member while playing with the Miami Dolphins. He also led the league in interceptions twice, tallying seven in 2018 and ten in 2020.

Howard played 13 games for the Dolphins last year, finishing with 45 tackles, 12 passes defended, and an interception. However, Howard won’t sign with the squad despite Cincinnati’s invitation. The Bengals need a defensive upgrade after surrendering 26.2 points per game, the seventh-worst clip this season.
