Question
What quarterback has started games for four cities with franchises with horse-themed team names? He’s a former fourth-round pick who at one point held the NCAA record for most career passing yards. He started three different bowl games for Purdue and was the MVP of each of them. He started only 12 career games, and he finished with more interceptions than touchdowns with every NFL team he played for.
Answer
Mark Herrmann. Drafted by the Broncos in 1982, he went 0-1 for them in 1982. In 1983, he went 0-1 with the Baltimore Colts. He started games for the Indianapolis Colts in 1984 and 1992, going 2-1 in those games. And he went 1-6 as a starter with the San Diego Chargers in the 1985-87 seasons. While there are battery chargers and electric lightning bolts on the side of the helmets, the Chargers were originally named after chargers of the cavalry variety – horses trained for battle. The team still uses white horses with some of its team markings. Herrmann was also a member of the Los Angeles Rams but did not start any games for that franchise.
