Question
Who, in 1968, was the first Black player to start at quarterback in the NFL’s modern era?
Answer
Marlin Briscoe. Selected in the 14th round out of Nebraska-Omaha, Briscoe went 2-3 as a rookie starter for the Broncos. He finished his rookie season with 14 TD passes. Those were the only quarterback starts of his career. Briscoe two years later led Buffalo with 1,036 receiving yards. Briscoe won two Super Bowl rings with Miami, leading one of those teams in TD receptions and the other in catches.
