Tarik Cohen

QB switch could spark third-down back

Chase Daniel is starting at quarterback for the Bears this week, and that has me more interested in Tarik Cohen. With the quarterback switch, I think Cohen will get more involved catching short passes out of the backfield.

Daniel took over on Sunday and Cohen caught a short touchdown at the goal line.

Last year, Daniel started two games, and Cohen was very good in both of them. He caught 7 passes for 45 yards and a touchdown in a win at Detroit. The following week against the Giants, Cohen caught a career-best 12 passes for 156 yards (and threw a touchdown in that one).

Daniel isn’t as physically talented as Mitchell Trubisky. His arm isn’t as strong, and he doesn’t have the same mobility. But he’s better between the ears. With a lot more experience, he’s got a better sense of timing and where to go with the ball.

If you’re looking for a plug-in back for Week 5, Cohen makes sense in PPR formats.
