Sunday morning news and notes

Howard not expected to play

The Sunday morning injury updates are coming in, with word on who should play and who shouldn't. And there's one gametime call where I'm willing to predict he'll be active.

  • Adam Schefter reports that Jordan Howard isn't expected to play through his shoulder/neck/stinger injury. Our Friday Update shows where Miles Sanders should be ranked if Howard is out. Jay Ajayi is expected to be active, but he just signed on Friday afternoon; would be surprising if he has a big role. Sanders and Boston Scott should be the primary backs, with Ajayi the No. 3.

  • Emmanuel Sanders (ribs) is expected to play for San Francisco. That lowers the appeal of Deebo Samuel and especially Kendrick Bourne. Sanders might be limited after not practicing all week, so he strikes me as a somewhat risky choice.

  • Marquise Brown (ankle) is expected to play for Baltimore. Brown won't necessarily play full-time, but he's the only wideout the team has made any effort to get the ball to, and he's facing a Texans defense that's been vulnerable to the pass.

  • LeVeon Bell (ribs) should play for the Jets.

  • The Bears are calling David Montgomery (knee) a gametime decision. Only other backs are Tarik Cohen and fullback Ryan Nall; they haven't activated anyone from the practice squad (and don't even have a running back there, after Kerrith Whyte signed with Pittsburgh). Seems like they've have signed someone if they thought Montgomery wouldn't play.

  • Houston ruled out Will Fuller (hamstring) yesterday, elevating Kenny Stills into the starting lineup. That moves Stills up to about 35th at wide receiver; should be the clear No. 2 behind DeAndre Hopkins. DeAndre Carter is expected to operate as the No. 3, ahead of Keke Coutee (but not much value in either player against a good Ravens defense).

  • No additional news since Ian's post yesterday about Damien Williams. I'll post in the comments here or on that thread if any developments are reported.
