Jarvis Landry

Ravens kicking tires on veteran

A story indicates that the Ravens are considering signing former Browns receiver Jarvis Landry. Baltimore is in need of pass catchers after swapping Marquise Brown to Arizona during the draft, and they got to see Landry up close twice last season. He's 29, so reasonable to think he has some good football left.

There are often examples of teams signing players who had good games against them, and this would be one of them. Landry's lone 100-yard game last year was against Baltimore (6 for 111 in November), and in the other meeting he caught 5 passes and one of his 2 TDs all season. So makes sense to think Baltimore believes he can help them out.

Based on the last couple of seasons, though, it probably won't be as a scorer. In his eight seasons in the league, he's had just one season with more than 6 touchdowns (2017 with Miami). The last two years he's scored 5, total. That's one of the very worst numbers against similarly involved wideouts in the league.

The last two seasons, there have been 39 wide receivers to see at least 180 targets. The only player to score fewer touchdowns than Landry among that group is New England's Jakobi Meyers. (Data from pro-football-reference.com was used in compiling this table, which is sorted by touchdowns.)

Baltimore has second-year wideout Rashod Bateman looking like its No. 1, but virtually nothing else -- Devin Duvernay, Tylan Wallace. They need to add a player of Landry's ilk. Just don't expect much in the way of scoring. Bateman and especially Mark Andrews look like the much better bets for touchdowns.
