49ers pull off historic feat on offense

While the San Francisco 49ers have four losses coming into their regular season finale, they have been one of the best teams on offense. They are tied for third in points per game (29.4) and second in yards per game (404.6) through Week 17.

But their success benefitted not just one or two people but all the top options surrounding quarterback Brock Purdy. That’s why they became the first team in NFL history to have a running back, a tight end, and two wide receivers reach the 1,000-yard mark in the same season.

Tight end George Kittle has 1,020 yards, his third time reaching four digits in his seven-season career. He did it through 65 receptions and scored six touchdowns in the process. Meanwhile, wideout Deebo Samuel has 1,085 yards from scrimmage (871 receiving, 214 rushing) and 12 touchdowns.

Brandon Aiyuk leads all receivers with 1,317 yards and seven touchdowns. He also leads the team in first-down catches with 59.

Finally, Christian McCaffrey has 2,023 yards from scrimmage. He has 272 carries for 1,459 yards and 67 catches for 564 yards. The former Stanford standout has 21 total touchdowns and 114 combined first downs.

Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan will likely give these players a pause in their Week 18 game against the Los Angeles Rams. After all, they have nothing to play for after clinching the National Football Conference’s top seed. Having them on the bench lessens injury risks, and they can’t afford any of them missing the postseason.

As the number one seed, these players look to continue their impressive season in the Divisional Round when they host the lowest-seeded team that will survive from the Wild Card Round.
