Vikings to start Nick Mullens over Hall and Dobbs

Josh Dobbs will backup Nick Mullens to finish the season

Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Kevin O'Connell confirmed that quarterback Josh Dobbs will assume the role of backup quarterback for the team's upcoming regular season finale against the Detroit Lions this Sunday.

The Vikings continue playing musical quarterbacks as coach O'Connell named Nick Mullens the starter earlier in the week after rookie Jaren Hall was given the start against Green Bay. Dobbs has been listed as the Vikings' third-string emergency QB for the past three weeks since Mullens replaced him as the team's quarterback.

Since Kirk Cousins' season-ending injury in Week 8, the Minnesota Vikings have experienced a tumultuous quarterback situation. Cousins' injury occurred during a game against the Packers, setting off a series of changes at the quarterback position.

Jaren Hall initially stepped in as the starter but was sidelined by a concussion early in his first game. Josh Dobbs, a recent acquisition, then took over and impressively led the Vikings to a 31-28 victory. Despite a follow-up win, Dobbs struggled in the next two games, marred by turnovers.

Nick Mullens replaced Dobbs during a narrow win over the Raiders, earning himself the starting spot. However, his tenure as a starter was rocky, with a mix of touchdowns and interceptions contributing to consecutive losses.

Returning to the starting role, Hall appeared overwhelmed in a significant 33-10 defeat against Green Bay.

With the playoffs now a distant possibility, the Vikings, led by Mullens, are set to face the NFC North champion Detroit Lions in their season finale.
