The Pittsburgh Steelers have parted ways with quarterback Mitchell Trubisky one season after he signed a two-year contract extension. Multiple sources have confirmed the news about the signal-caller who earned $8 million last season.
The second overall selection in the 2017 NFL draft joined the Steelers in 2022 after one season as Josh Allen’s backup with the Buffalo Bills. He was initially Pittsburgh’s starting quarterback that season until head coach Mike Tomlin benched him for Kenny Pickett in Week 4.

While Trubisky started in five games that season, Pickett won the starting role over him. That setup continued in 2023 until Pickett suffered an ankle injury in Week 13. As the second quarterback in the depth chart, Trubisky got the starting nod in Weeks 14 and 15. However, his miserable performances led Tomlin to bench him for Mason Rudolph.
In 12 games with the Steelers, Mitchell Trubisky had 184 completions for 1,884 yards, eight touchdowns, and ten interceptions.
Before playing for the Bills, Trubisky suited up for the Chicago Bears from 2017 to 2020. The former North Carolina standout helped the NFC North team reach the playoffs twice but did not register any victory.
While he’s no longer with Chicago, he still holds the single-game postseason record for passing yards (303) and the rookie record for passing yards in a season (2,193).
Aside from Trubisky, the Steelers parted ways with offensive lineman Chukwuma Okorafor and punter Pressley Harvin.
