Eagles, Jordan Mailata Agree to Three-Year, $66 Million Contract Extension

The Philadelphia Eagles and offensive tackle Jordan Mailata agreed to a three-year, $66 million contract extension. It’s a timely decision for both parties because Mailata is in the final year of the four-year, $64 million deal he signed in 2018. Meanwhile, the Eagles will continue to have one of the best left tackles in the game.

Mailata was a product of the NFL’s International Pathway Program. He played rugby league in Australia before deciding to give American football a try. He trained in Florida’s IMG Academy and was scouted by Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland.

Philadelphia took a flyer on him, selecting him in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He became the second player with no American high school or college experience to be selected in the draft. However, he became a quick learner and is now a stalwart of the Eagles offensive line, protecting the blind side of quarterbacks Carson Wentz, Nick Foles, Gardner Minshew, and Jalen Hurts.

While the per-year terms of his new contract are unknown, he’s under contract with the Eagles until 2028, when he turns 31. He will receive a $20 million signing bonus and $48 million in total guarantees.

On January 26, 2024, Pro Football Focus writer Zoltan Buday named Jordan Mailata the Eagles’ most improved player after his PFF grade jumped from 76.5 in 2022 to 84.1 in 2023. He received an 83.2 mark in pass blocking and 83 in run blocking.
