Are The Bills On Rebuild Mode?

Trading Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans adds to the list of players the Buffalo Bills lost this offseason. Going over the $255.4 million salary cap for the 2024 season prompted them to release some key players that helped them become a perennial playoff contender.

As listed on a tweet by B/R Gridiron, the Bills lost nine vital players. Gabe Davis signed a three-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, while Tre’Davious White joined the Los Angeles Rams on a one-year, $10 million contract after being designated as a post-June 1 cut.

After getting released, Jordan Poyer and Sirian Neal joined Buffalo’s division rival, the Miami Dolphins. Meanwhile, defensive end Leonard Floyd joined the San Francisco 49ers, while wide receiver Trent Sherfield is with the Minnesota Vikings.

Nyheim Hines signed with the Cleveland Browns, while Micah Hyde remains a free agent.

Losing these players puts them $3.4 million under the cap, enough to sign their selections from the 2024 NFL Draft. But while they lost several players, the Bills still have a competitive roster led by quarterback Josh Allen, running back James Cook, and wide receivers Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel.

On defense, Greg Rousseau, Von Miller, and Matt Milano will be back. Rasul Douglas, Taylor Rapp, Mike Edwards, and Christian Benford will take on bigger roles in Buffalo’s defensive secondary.

Mixing up this roster with talented rookies will keep the Bills on track for the postseason and possibly a Super Bowl stint.
