Michael Gallup Retires After Six NFL Seasons

The Las Vegas Raiders placed wide receiver Michael Gallup on the reserved/retired list during the first day of training camp for veterans. That designation means that Gallup will leave the game for good even before playing a snap for the Raiders.

Gallup signed a one-year contract worth up to $3 million with the Raiders on the last day of April 2024. However, his retirement means he only played for the Dallas Cowboys throughout his NFL career. The Cowboys selected Gallup in the third round of the 2018 draft, 80 spots after top overall pick Baker Mayfield.

The former Colorado State standout had his best season in 2019, his second year with the Cowboys. Gallup tallied 66 receptions for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns, marking the only time he reached the 1,000-yard milestone.

In 2021, Gallup’s campaign ended after nine games due to a torn ACL. Despite that injury, the Cowboys signed him to a five-year, $62.5 million extension the following offseason. Unfortunately, his performance regressed even if he played 14 and 17 games over the last two NFL seasons. His declining output prompted the Cowboys to release him last March.

Michael Gallup finished his NFL career with 285 receptions for 4,030 yards and 23 touchdowns in 91 games (including playoffs).
