Vikings Couldn't Catch A Break With Injuries to J.J. McCarthy And Jordan Addison

The Minnesota Vikings are in tough luck after injuries to J.J. McCarthy and Jordan Addison. McCarthy will miss the 2024 season after undergoing a complete meniscus repair conducted by Twin Cities Orthopedics’ Dr. Chris Larson. After initially complaining about knee soreness, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said he would be out indefinitely.

Therefore, McCarthy will be skipping his rookie season. However, the meniscus repair will improve his long-term health and success in the NFL. With McCarthy shut down in 2024, Sam Darnold strengthens his hold as Minnesota's starting quarterback. The veteran quarterback was already QB1 when the Vikings released their first depth chart during the 2024 offseason.

Unfortunately, that's not the end of the Vikings' woes, as Jordan Addison abruptly left practice due to a leg injury. Videos show that Addison incurred the injury after contesting for a catch during their latest scrimmage. While his status remains uncertain, it's another blow to Minnesota's troubles this offseason.

Physical therapist Dr. Jeff Mueller reviewed the video of Addison's injury and speculated that it looked like a left high ankle sprain. Mueller predicted that Addison would be out for three weeks if that's the case. However, he did not eliminate the possibility of a deltoid sprain that could force him to be sidelined for a more extended period.

Addison showed promise during his rookie season, finishing with 70 catches for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns in 17 games. He became the Vikings' top option in the passing game after Justin Jefferson missed seven games due to a hamstring injury.
