Cowboys Sign Veteran DE Carl Lawson

NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero tweeted that the Dallas Cowboys have signed defensive end Carl Lawson to a contract whose terms remain undisclosed. Before joining the Cowboys, Lawson played for the Cincinnati Bengals and the New York Jets.

Lawson can disrupt the opponent’s offensive line at his best, as proven by his 8.5 sacks during his rookie season for the Bengals and seven in 2022 for the Jets.

However, he’s had some injury issues in the last three years. He missed the entire 2021 season due to an Achilles rupture and played only six games last year. Lawson has 27 sacks and 119 tackles in seven NFL seasons.

Signing the former Auburn standout came after the Cowboys traded for nose tackle Jordan Phillips from division rivals the New York Giants. Those additions will beef up Dallas’ pass rush after the team lost Sam Williams to a season-ending ACL tear and waived Shaka Toney.

Lawson and Phillips will join a defensive front featuring Mazi Smith, DeMarcus Lawrence, and All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons.
