Commanders, Eagles Complete Rare In-Division Trade Involving Jahan Dotson

While the Washington Commanders and the Philadelphia Eagles play in the NFC East, they’ve completed a trade with wide receiver Jahan Dotson as the centerpiece. The Eagles will receive the third-year wideout from Penn State and a 2025 fifth-round pick, while the Commanders get a third-rounder and two seventh-round picks next year.

There has been much talk about Dotson struggling during the Commanders training camp. This time, he goes to a new environment wherein he could start alongside A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. The trade also means the Eagles will inherit the remainder of Dotson's four-year, $15.04 million rookie scale contract.

The Commanders selected Dotson 16th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. It was a wise move back then after Dotson became a First-Team All-Big Ten member with the Nittany Lions. In his first year with Washington, Dotson finished with 35 receptions for 523 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games.

However, he regressed during his second NFL season. Despite playing all 17 regular season games, Dotson finished with fewer yards (518) and touchdowns (4). With Dotson now with the Eagles, Olamide Zaccheaus could crack the Commanders' starting roster for Week 1.

Meanwhile, the Eagles could use Dotson to avoid the massive collapse they experienced last season. Jalen Hurts gets another fast target in the passing game, as proven by Dotson's 4.43-second 40-yard dash during the 2022 Scouting Combine.

In addition to Dotson, the Eagles signed running back Saquon Barkley (formerly with the New York Giants) to a three-year contract.
