Mike Williams’ situation improved after the New York Jets traded him to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 2025 fifth-round pick. In addition to joining a team with a winning record, the Steelers have legitimate playoff aspirations after claiming their seventh win in nine games. But before thinking about the postseason, Williams used his recent success to take a sideswipe on his former quarterback.
In a social media post after the Steelers’ 28-27 victory over the Washington Commanders, Williams included the hashtag “#redline,” a term Rodgers mentioned after their Jets’ Week 6 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Rodgers explained that Williams ran the wrong route, stressing that he must be on the red line, a stripe that guides receivers with their routes.

Williams helped the Steelers defeat the Commanders four weeks later with a 32-yard touchdown catch, his only reception in the game. More importantly, his catch leveled the count at 27 before Chris Boswell put Pittsburgh with an extra point.
Williams teamed up with Aaron Rodgers and the Jets after seven seasons for the Los Angeles Chargers. It was an easy choice, considering he could play with the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player. Unfortunately, Williams’ stint in New York didn’t unfold as expected, and his limited playing time dropped his numbers to 166 receiving yards in nine games.
