Have we seen the last of Justin Tucker? If the reports in a Baltimore newspaper are to believed, at least nine massage therapists have complained about him acting inappropriately, with Tucker banned from returning to two different spas.
The Baltimore Banner posted an initial story earlier on Thursday, with six complaints against Tucker. Now there’s a follow-up piece, with three more joining in.
The complaints of the therapists (who come from five different spas) include allegations that Tucker exposed his genitals, brushed them with his penis and left bodily fluid on tables, which the workers said appeared to be ejaculate. The complaints come from the 2012-2016 time period.
“I understand that Justin Tucker is an important client,” one of the women wrote in 2015. But “I no longer feel safe or comfortable working with him.”
Tucker denies the claims. “The allegations in The Baltimore Banner article about me are unequivocally false,” he wrote on the X.com platform.
“I did not act inappropriately at any point before, during, or after a professional bodywork treatment session,” Tucker wrote. “I cannot be any clearer. These allegations are false and incredibly hurtful to both me and, more important, my family.”
The charges are similar to those made against Deshaun Watson. But their contracts aren’t. Watson have a five-year contract worth a fully guaranteed $230 million, making it tough for the Browns to get rid of him. With Tucker, there’s no guaranteed money left on his contract, making it relatively painless to move on from him.
That’s probably the route the Ravens will be going, with Tucker’s on-field performance slipping anyway. He’s 35 and the league’s all-time leader in field goal accuracy, but he’s tailed off the last few years. He made 90.5 percent of his field goals in his first 10 season, including a career-best 94.6 in 2021. But he’s made only 86.0, 86.5 and 73.3 percent the last three seasons.
The 73.3 percent last year was the worst of his career. Among kickers with at least 20 attempts last year, only three were less accurate than Tucker.
Even before these allegations surfaced, it was reasonable to wonder whether the Ravens might bring in another kicker to replace Tucker or at least challenge for the job. That’s how I’m expecting it will go. With effective kickers being easy to find nowadays, I don’t think we’ll see Tucker on an NFL field again.
