Marshawn Lynch was always something of a colorful character. This is a guy who took a golf cart for a spin around the field as far back as college, after all. He had his moments with Buffalo, before really taking off in Seattle. And now there's talk he may come back.
The Seattle Times' take on the story can be seen right here. Lynch is 30 and played well last season, so it's not impossible or implausible to think he could return.
Seattle, though, probably isn't a logical home for him. They've got Thomas Rawls, a reborn Christine Michael, and two other tailbacks they drafted in the first five rounds in this year's draft. They don't necessarily need Lynch and probably wouldn't want to pay him.
They could release him, as the Colts did with Peyton Manning, and let him shop himself to the highest bidder. And there would be bidders. They could keep his rights and trade him somewhere, as the Packers did with Brett Favre. Doing that would prevent Lynch ending up with a division rival (although running back isn't a major need for the Cardinals, Rams or 49ers).
I think the most likely scenario, though, is that Lynch doesn't do anything right now, until a starting running back gets hurt. Then Seattle's phone will be ringing, and Lynch will mentioned as a possibility. Especially if it's a non-division rival who's calling.
So if you're in a deep league, Lynch should probably be on a roster. Maybe not in Week 2, but it won't be surprising if he's back in the NFL this season.
