Bills Trade Stefon Diggs to Texans

The Buffalo Bills and the Houston Texans finalized a trade to bring wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the AFC South squad. The Texans will acquire the All-Pro wideout and give Buffalo a 2025 second-round pick, which Houston initially got from the Minnesota Vikings.

Likewise, the Texans are getting a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-rounder. Diggs will be a great addition to a team that finished the 2023 season at 10-7, a fantastic turnaround from their 3-13-1 record in 2022. Under DeMeco Ryans’ leadership, the Texans made the playoffs and reached the Divisional Round, wherein they lost to the Baltimore Ravens.

Diggs finished the 2023 season with 107 catches for 1,183 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. It’s his sixth-consecutive 1,000-yard season and fourth-straight year with at least 100 catches. His 2023 production earned him his fourth Pro Bowl selection. Diggs has two All-Pro selections: a First Team nod in 2020 and a Second Team inclusion two years later.

With the Texans absorbing Diggs’ contract, he can remain with the team until 2027 as part of the four-year, $96 million contract extension he signed in 2022. The former Maryland standout will carry an $18.5 million cap hit in 2024.

Stefon Diggs bolsters Houston’s wide receiver room, which also features Nico Collins and Tank Dell. The Texans also traded for Joe Mixon to upgrade their ground game and signed him to a three-year, $27 million contract. Likewise, the Texans rewarded tight end Dalton Schultz with a three-year, $36 million extension.

Diggs’ addition gives the Texans one of the best offensive units in the NFL. If the 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud maintains or improves on his game, Houston can make a deep playoff run.

Meanwhile, trading Diggs leaves Buffalo with Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel, and Mack Hollins as its top wideouts. The Bills already lost Gabe Davis to the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier in the offseason due to salary cap constraints. Worse yet, the Bills will absorb a $31.1 million dead cap in trading Diggs to Houston.
